Artemis Clarke

Artemis still doesn't know why she's doing this. Well, okay, yes she does - she's doing this because, as much as she would love to keep anyone from knowing her true nature, ever, it's really not a feasible plan - if nothing else, because she knows what a well-planted virus, a slight tweak to a segment of coding, could do to her programming, and if that were to happen, and nobody knew it was even a possibility... well. It wouldn't be a very good situation for her, would it.

She stands awkwardly at a street corner - even as long as she's been in this time, Artemis is far from mastering the art of subtlety when it comes to meeting people in public spaces - looking around apprehensively, her hands shoved in her pockets. She had asked Ravirn to meet her here as a last-second decision, before she changed her mind, and even now she just of hopes he gets there quickly enough that she doesn't have time to bolt, because some part of her still isn't convinced that this isn't a completely terrible idea.

Origin story: Artemis is from a possible future in which most of the human population was destroyed by a massive force of rogue (hacked and virus-implanted) police-bots called Hunter drones. Artemis herself was originally one of these robots; however, after the war, her remains were found and repaired by a scientist named Diana Clarke, who felt that the Hunters could potentially be repurposed to... pretty much do their job, but better and with less murder.

The drone was repaired and reactivated, and, over the next few years, gradually reprogrammed to the point of near-human-ness, because that's what Dr. Clarke considered the obvious thing to do with a deactivated kill-bot. The final result came to be known as Artemis, and, eventually, became trusted with the protection of the city, supposedly as a superpowered human.

A few weeks ago, however, an accident with a teleporter prototype resulted in the creation of a space-time rift, which Artemis ended up getting caught in. The rift deposited her near Los Angeles, and she almost immediately started hunting for information on her new whereabouts.

Despite the apparently more welcoming attitude toward AI's displayed in this time period, she was initially reluctant to reveal her true nature to anyone, and so did not properly register as a hero for quite some time. Over time, however, she became gradually more open to the idea as she came to feel both less like the fact that she's a robot would be a problem, and more like her lack of connections or security would.

Of course, all that changed with the recent cyborg disaster and kidnappings, and she is now back to being pretty sure that admitting to being an android would be a death sentence, so she's back to just hanging awkwardly around the city, trying to do hero things where she can but too uncomfortable disobeying the law to take on any sort of actual vigilante status, and too unwilling to give the government her personal information to actually register. She hasn't even gotten a job since there are no records of her even existing, it sort of stinks.

Personality: Artemis is very cautious about guarding her true nature, and may come off as defensive and kind of jittery if she feels she's at risk of being exposed. This can range anywhere from awkwardly avoiding questions to behaving in an outright hostile manner in order to drive away unwanted attention; she's especially likely to panic a bit if anyone actually tries to touch her (her skin feels very slightly different from human skin, and while she technically has a pulse, it's more of a constant thrumming than an actual heartbeat).

Ironically, she herself tends to be kind of wary of other AI's. The problem is mainly that she was programmed/raised in a pretty robot-unfriendly environment (considering the robot apocalypse and everything) and so has ended up with something of a "not-like-other-robots" mentality. It's not quite as bad as when she first arrived, thanks to her weeks of exposure to the idea of non-malicious robots, but she's still a bit wary of any inorganic sapient.

Artemis is typically very loyal to one person or group at a time, sometimes to the point of actively ignoring anything morally questionable they may do. Similarly, she has a tendency to stick solidly to her first impressions of individuals, and changing her mind is far from an easy task. If she is forced to reconsider her view of a specific person, she will do so only very reluctantly, and probably over a long period of time, and with a lot of distress.

Once she has developed a positive opinion of someone, she will usually be very protective of and friendly toward them. She may also subject them to lots of bad puns. On the other end, if she dislikes someone she will make no secret of it and will generally display very little tolerance toward them about anything. Unsurprisingly, her black-and-white view of people can make things pretty difficult.

Powers: Emitting, directing, and controlling electricity; robot fastness (not anything super-extreme, but faster than humans tend to be), combat training. On the other end of 'effects of being a robot' is the fact that really strong magnets kind of mess with her head, before they actually start like. Pulling on her metal components or anything.
